  • Minnesota Craniofacial Research Training Program (MinnCResT) MinnCResT, now the largest training grant at the University of Minnesota (up to 29 positions), is an externally funded professional education training program in clinical, basic, and epidemiological research training on mucosal biology and disease. MAVRC executive board member Mark Herzberg (School of Dentistry) is the Principal Investigator. Founded in May, 2002, this NIH-sponsored multidisciplinary, regional center of excellence is created to train the next generation of scientists. http://www.mncrest.umn.edu/.

  • MAVRC PREMIERS: On September 7, 2001, the first University of Minnesota-wide strategic planning luncheon was held at the University Gateway. Of 91 investigators currently registered in MAVRC, 43 participated in this interactive and productive session. Overall, representatives were present from 4 colleges (Medicine, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, Dental) and the Minnesota Department of Health. Plans were made to promote collaborative scientific and funding programs, to raise the profile of Mucosal Biology at the University, to identify and enlist interested investigators, and to invite innovative speakers to enhance our intellectual climate and advance the field. The discussion was led by MAVRC Council members Edward Janoff, Michael Murtaugh, Mark Herzberg, and Moïse Desvarieux.

  • INTREPIDE - MAVRC Council member Moïse Desvarieux and the Division of Epidemiology in the School of Public Health have initiated a dynamic relationship between prominent French investigators in infectious diseases and international health from the University of Paris and the University of Minnesota. A trans-Atlantic exchange of teaching, scientific expertise, and collaborative projects are underway. For further information, see International Health.
